A Novice Novelty (Sheet Music)

$10.00

The peculiar title of this composition comes from the name of a small town in Texas, called Novice. The composer’s grandfather, Herman DePrang, was born in this small town in 1925, in a cabin built by Davy Crockett himself around 1836. The composer chose to write this tune in the popular ragtime form of the ‘20s, the novelty rag. “A Novice Novelty” received second place in the New Rag Contest at the 2007 World Championship of Old-Time Piano Playing, held in Peoria, Illinois. It was typeset by Tom Brier, and the cover drawn by the lady of the great Johnny Maddox, Ms. Fredette Eagle. — Recorded by Martin Spitznagel on his CD “Tricky Fingers” (Rivermont BSW-2206)
